Bredgar Parish Council have been successful in requesting that Swale Planning prepare a Bexon Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan. This work has been now prepared and is available by public consultation for the document to be reviewed.

The public consultation period is from the 15th October, to the 10th December and can be found online at:

https://swale.gov.uk/your-council/consultations.

or copies of the document are available for review in Bredgar Sub Post Office and in Sittingbourne Library, Central Avenue, ME10 4AH.

The review takes the form of:

  • A Character Area Appraisal which explains the special architectural and historic interest of the areas;
  • A Management Strategy which provides guidelines to enausre that its historic significance is sustained through potential enhancement work/projects and ongoing development management and;
  • Proposals for revised boundaries to the Conservation Area.

Before confirming any change to the Conservation Area, the Borough Council is keen to listen to the views of local residents, local businesses and other key stakeholders.

The results of the consultation exercise will be reported to the Borough's Elected Members for consideration along with recommendations to finalise and adopt the Conservation Areas Character Appraisal and Management Plan document (taking into account any approriate changes arrising from feedback) in early 2026.

Conservation Area designation and review is a long and well established way of managing the future of our cherished historic areas.
